Job Title

Director of Software Validation Engineering – ROCm

Role Summary

Lead and transform test engineering for the ROCm GPU software stack, owning vision, strategy, and execution from kernel/driver validation through ML framework integration. Build and operate continuous validation infrastructure and scale the team's impact using AI-assisted and agentic tooling.

The role is a hands-on technical leadership position working at the HW/SW interface, engaging with hardware, firmware, runtime, compiler, and framework teams as well as the open-source ROCm community.

Experience Level

Senior-level (Director). The posting does not specify years-of-experience; requires hands-on technical leadership, engineering management, and deep experience in hardware-adjacent or systems-level software and test automation.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include strategy, team leadership, infrastructure, and hands-on engineering to raise quality and reliability across the ROCm stack.

  • Define and own test engineering strategy and architecture across driver, runtime, compiler/toolchain, and ML framework validation.
  • Hire, grow, and mentor SDETs and test engineers; drive SDET-level engineering discipline and automation-first culture.
  • Architect and operate continuous testing/validation infrastructure: staging, soak, stress, failure-injection, recovery, and long-duration reliability environments.
  • Drive AI-first and agentic testing: LLM-assisted test generation, autonomous failure triage, intelligent test prioritization, and agentic CI/CD workflows.
  • Prototype and deliver test frameworks, validation tooling, and agentic testing pipelines in high-ambiguity contexts.
  • Define, track, and improve quality KPIs such as coverage, defect escape rate, time-to-detection, device utilization, and validation cycle time.
  • Collaborate with hardware, firmware, compiler, runtime, framework, and DevOps teams to integrate quality from design through release and evolve GPU-aware CI/CD pipelines.
  • Engage with the open-source community and customers to translate workload patterns and failure reports into structured test coverage.
  • Ensure HW/SW test automation across Linux and Windows and across AMD GPU product lines.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience to perform the role; preferred items are indicated where appropriate.

  • Proven experience building and scaling test engineering or SDET organizations in hardware-adjacent or systems-level software environments.
  • Hands-on expertise in test automation at scale: framework design, CI/CD pipeline development, and continuous validation systems.
  • Practical experience with hardware + software test automation, including HW bring-up, driver validation, or firmware/software co-testing.
  • Strong understanding of GPU architecture and HW/SW interfaces (PCIe, memory subsystems, compute kernels) and how AI training/inference workloads map to hardware.
  • Experience operating always-on test infrastructure: soak/stress environments, failure injection, and reliability/recovery validation.
  • Proficiency in Python for test automation, tooling, and scripted validation workflows.
  • Hands-on software development skills sufficient to prototype test frameworks and review SDET-level code.
  • Experience with ROCm, CUDA, or other GPU compute stacks and familiarity with profiling/trace tools and multi-GPU coordination challenges.
  • Experience adopting and scaling AI tooling, LLMs, or agentic workflows into testing or development processes.
  • Familiarity with open-source development and community-facing CI (e.g., GitHub Actions) and contributing to public projects.

Education Requirements

Master's degree or PhD in a related discipline preferred.
