Director of Software Engineering – IP Tooling

Role Summary

Lead Arm's IP Tooling organisation (approximately 70 people across Manchester, Galway and Austin) to improve developer platforms, engineering tools and workflows used to configure, integrate and debug Arm IP and SoC designs.

The role partners with Engineering Managers, technical specialists and cross-functional stakeholders to set priorities, modernise platforms, and develop engineering leaders.

Experience Level

Senior — Director-level leadership role. Requires significant experience managing distributed software organisations and senior engineering managers.

Responsibilities

Accountable for organisational leadership, delivery priorities and developer productivity across the IP Tooling organisation.

• Lead and support a globally distributed organisation across Manchester, Galway and Austin.
• Develop and mentor Engineering Managers and technical leaders; build an inclusive, learning culture.
• Define organisational priorities, balancing delivery, innovation and long-term capability.
• Collaborate with product, architecture and technology partners to shape roadmaps and investment decisions.
• Modernise developer platforms and engineering workflows to improve productivity and quality.
• Encourage cross-team collaboration across software, hardware and product groups to align on shared outcomes.

Requirements

• Proven experience leading distributed software organisations through managers and technical leaders.
• Track record of developing managers and building inclusive teams that deliver complex software products.
• Experience working with product, architecture and cross-functional partners to prioritise technical investment.
• Familiarity with developer platforms, engineering tools or software products used by technical communities.
• Strong stakeholder management, decision-making and organisational design skills.
• Ability to modernise engineering workflows and drive platform-level improvements.
• Nice-to-have: experience with semiconductors, embedded software, SoC integration, hardware/software co-design or the Arm ecosystem.
