Director of Foundry Engineering
Role Summary
Lead Altera's foundry engagement, process technology enablement, and manufacturing execution for FPGA and programmable device portfolios. Serve as the primary technical interface with external foundry partners to ensure silicon readiness, manufacturability, yield, reliability, and cost optimization across technology nodes.
Work cross-functionally with design, product engineering, quality, supply chain, and executive leadership to drive execution from early process definition through high-volume manufacturing.
Experience Level
Senior - requires 15+ years of experience in semiconductor manufacturing, foundry engineering, or process technology.
Responsibilities
Accountable for foundry strategy, process enablement, and manufacturing performance across product roadmaps.
- Oversee silicon manufacturing operations from first silicon to high-volume production, including change control and continuous improvement.
- Lead yield improvement, defect reduction, parametric optimization, and reliability validation efforts.
- Manage technical relationships with external foundries; drive process selection, qualification, and risk assessment.
- Drive foundry process enablement, PDK readiness, and design-to-manufacturing alignment.
- Represent the company in joint technology reviews, process roadmap discussions, and executive engagements.
- Collaborate with Design Engineering, DTCO, Product Line Management, Supply Chain, and Operations to influence manufacturability, cost, performance, and schedule.
- Build, lead, and mentor a foundry engineering organization; set goals and development plans for senior technical staff.
- Manage foundry-related risks, capacity planning, supply assurance, and contribute to cost modeling and node transition strategies.
Requirements
Must-have technical background and leadership experience; preferred items indicate added value.
- Must-have: 15+ years of experience in semiconductor manufacturing, foundry engineering, or process technology.
- Demonstrated experience working directly with major semiconductor foundries across advanced and mature nodes.
- Proven experience in yield engineering, reliability, and advanced CMOS process technologies.
- Proven record leading complex, cross-functional technical programs and managing senior technical staff.
- Eligible for any required U.S. export authorizations.
- Nice-to-have: Experience supporting logic, SoC, or FPGA products; prior people management at senior manager or director level; familiarity with multi-foundry or foundry-agnostic strategies.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related technical field is required.
