Director, Digital Design
Role Summary
Lead and manage local and remote digital design activities for one or more ASIC products, providing technical leadership through silicon development. Responsible for building and retaining a high-caliber engineering organization and aligning digital design work with cross-functional implementation teams.
Experience Level
Senior - approximately 18+ years of relevant digital ASIC development experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include technical leadership, team management, cross-functional coordination, and driving delivery of digital silicon projects.
- Oversee digital design and silicon development activities for one or more products, including technical direction and delivery responsibility.
- Manage and organize a digital design team of engineers and managers at varying experience levels.
- Work with and influence central organizations such as Physical Design, DFT, and Design Verification to ensure successful implementation.
- Define architecture and specifications for complex digital systems across applications.
- Drive project planning, milestone delivery, and resource allocation.
- Proliferate best practices and mentoring across the wider digital design community.
- Use FPGA in the development flow and validate pre-silicon deliverables.
- Communicate technical status and trade-offs effectively to engineering teams and executive leadership.
- Occasional travel required (approximately 10%).
Requirements

- Proven experience managing digital design resources and projects.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to articulate technical issues clearly.
- Experience engaging productively with cross-functional, global development teams and delivering to project milestones.
- Broad experience with digital design, verification, and implementation tool flows.
- Strong knowledge of RTL coding techniques and good design practices (LINT, CDC, RDC).
- Experience with low-power design techniques and UPF, plus power analysis.
- Strong understanding of physical implementation challenges (synthesis, place-and-route, DFT, STA).
- Familiarity with FPGA-based development and prototyping flows.
- Proficiency with scripting languages such as TCL, Perl, or Python.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills at all organizational levels.
Education Requirements
BTech, MTech, or PhD in Electrical or Electronics Engineering. The role expects approximately 18+ years of relevant digital ASIC development experience.
