Digital Test Engineer
QualcommJob Title
Digital Test Engineer
Role Summary
Design and implement test solutions for silicon validation, characterization, and manufacturing enablement of Qualcomm SoC products. Work within Product and Test Engineering (PTE) to develop bench and ATE test programs, diagnose silicon/board issues, and support production/yield objectives across digital IP, HSIO, memory and optical subsystems.
Experience Level
Mid-level - typically requires around 3+ years of hardware engineering or related work experience. The posting also lists alternative experience combinations tied to advanced degrees; see Education Requirements.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include developing test solutions for new product introduction and production support.
- Develop and implement digital test plans and ATE programs for silicon validation, characterization, and manufacturing.
- Debug silicon and board-level issues using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum/network analyzers and other bench equipment.
- Create automation and software (ATE/bench) for product bring-up, regression, and production test.
- Analyze signal integrity and transmission-line issues; partner with design and DFT teams on diagnostics and yield improvements.
- Support testing of IP blocks (microprocessors, HSIO, logic, memory) and optical/photonic subsystems.
- Collaborate with packaging, thermal, and photonics teams for 2.5D/3D IC testing and subsystem validation.
- Provide production support, contribute to yield management, and optimize test time and diagnostics.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for day-one contribution, followed by preferred skills.
- Must-have: Proficiency with Python, Java, and Linux.
- Must-have: Hands-on experience with common test equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, network analyzers).
- Must-have: Working knowledge of signal integrity and transmission-line theory.
- Must-have: Approximately 3+ years of hardware engineering or related work experience.
- Preferred: Experience with Advantest 93K or Teradyne UFlex/IFlex ATE platforms.
- Preferred: FPGA programming and embedded software experience for optical subsystem prototyping.
- Preferred: Familiarity with active/passive photonic devices and optical communication metrics (OSNR, receiver sensitivity, OMI, optical filtering).
- Preferred: Industrial experience supporting high-volume semiconductor or EIC/PIC production; strong analytical and organizational skills.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Optics/Photonics, or a related technical field is listed as the baseline. The posting also notes advanced degree options and associated experience combinations: Bachelor's degree plus ~2+ years relevant experience; Master's degree plus ~1+ year relevant experience; PhD candidates are considered. A Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Optics is noted as preferred.
