Digital IP Design Engineer (f/m/d)
NXP SemiconductorsJob Title
Digital IP Design Engineer (f/m/d)
Role Summary
The Digital IP Design Engineer will design, implement and deliver digital IP blocks for complex mixed-signal SoCs. The role is on the Advanced Chip Engineering Digital IP team in Munich, developing interface components, DSP subsystems, next-generation AI/ML cores and RISC-V IP.
The engineer will work with hardware, software, architecture and system teams to define features, interfaces and integration points while meeting area, power, performance and DFT requirements.
Experience Level
Senior - minimum 10 years of experience in IP or subsystem design.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include digital IP design, verification, synthesis and integration for SoC projects.
- Design and implement digital IP and RTL (Verilog/SystemVerilog) according to architectural specifications.
- Collaborate with hardware, software and system engineering teams to define features, interfaces and system-level use cases.
- Perform design quality checks (lint, CDC/RDC) and basic verification (testbench development, simulation, debugging).
- Complete IP synthesis and basic timing analysis to meet timing, area and power targets.
- Ensure designs meet design-for-testability (DFT) requirements and participate in design reviews.
- Troubleshoot and resolve design issues throughout the development lifecycle; support pre-silicon and post-silicon debug.
- Apply AI-based tools to improve development and design efficiency.
- Maintain knowledge of industry trends, tools and methodologies in digital design.
- Perform security-related tasks as required to support security certification scopes.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and relevant experience; preferred items are noted.
- Minimum 10 years' experience in IP or subsystem design.
- Strong understanding of microprocessor architecture, interconnects and cache coherency mechanisms.
- Hands-on experience with CPU design (proprietary cores, RISC-V) or AI/ML accelerators.
- Experience with AMBA protocols (AHB, AXI, ACE, CHI) and memory systems (ROM, RAM, Flash, DDR/LPDDR).
- Advanced knowledge of Verilog, SystemVerilog and C/C++.
- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Perl, TCL or Shell.
- Experience with lint, CDC/RDC checks, synthesis, timing analysis and DFT practices.
- Experience debugging in pre-silicon (simulation, emulation, FPGA) and post-silicon environments.
- Excellent written and verbal English; basic conversational German preferred.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
