Job Title

Digital IC Design Intern

Role Summary

The intern will join the Power Design team to support power estimation, analysis, and optimization across the chip design lifecycle. The role focuses on applying and improving methodologies and tools to identify power issues and implement optimizations at the RTL and physical-design stages.

Work includes developing automation, improving power flows, analyzing power trends, and collaborating with architecture, RTL, verification, and physical-design teams.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship (student-level).

Responsibilities

The intern will contribute to power analysis, tooling, and cross-functional optimization efforts. Key responsibilities include:

  • Ramp up on chip power estimation methodologies, tools, and calculators.
  • Perform power analysis across stages of the design flow and identify optimization opportunities.
  • Propose and implement power optimizations at RTL and physical-design levels.
  • Develop automation and improve existing power-estimation and analysis flows.
  • Explore and apply AI or automation techniques to speed up power analysis and optimization.
  • Analyze power trends to locate high-impact improvement areas and track power targets.
  • Collaborate with architecture, RTL, verification, physical-design, and power teams to drive power-related activities.
  • Prepare concise presentations summarizing findings and recommendations for the team.

Requirements

Core non-education qualifications and expectations.

  • Ability to work effectively on a technical team and communicate results clearly.
  • Prepare a short PowerPoint presentation summarizing work, issues encountered, and key outcomes.
  • Willingness and ability to learn power-analysis tools and measurement flows quickly.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills and attention to detail when evaluating power data.
  • Interest in automation and the application of AI tools to engineering workflows.
  • Must be eligible to access technology or software subject to U.S. export control laws; non-U.S. applicants may require export-license review.

Education Requirements

At least a second-year undergraduate student in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar field. Relevant coursework should include circuit design, circuit theory, digital logic design, or electronics. (Equivalent practical experience not specified.)
