Digital IC Design Engineering Intern
Role Summary
Member of the Digital Design group contributing to development of digital subsystems for mixed-signal ICs in the Signal Integrity Products division. Work spans concept, design, verification, implementation, and lab bring-up.
This is a student internship supporting data communications and broadcast video product lines; typical assignment length is 12–16 months.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship (student). This is a hands-on role intended for students or early-career candidates; duration 12–16 months.
Responsibilities
Key day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Design RTL blocks for digital subsystems.
- Translate architecture and design specs into RTL or verification code.
- Perform functional verification using constrained-random methodologies.
- Create scripts and methods to automate or improve design flows.
- Use CAD tools for synthesis, DFT insertion, and STA/timing closure.
- Collaborate with analog/digital engineers, system engineers, and marketing to meet requirements.
- Produce technical, process, and product documentation.
- Support bring-up, lab debug, and product validation.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and attributes:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good verbal and written communication; able to work independently and in a team.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Basic understanding of digital design and microelectronics.
- Familiarity with HDL: SystemVerilog, Verilog, or VHDL.
- Experience or knowledge of programming/scripting: C/C++, Perl, Python, SystemVerilog, Visual Basic.
- Object-oriented programming knowledge (C++) is preferred.
- Working knowledge of PC and Unix/Linux operating systems.
Education Requirements
Completed at least 3 years of a bachelor’s degree program in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering (student status required). No alternate-equivalent experience language stated.
