Digital Hardware Engineering Lead
Role Summary
Lead an electrical engineering team to design and deliver digital hardware, FPGA/SoC solutions, and host PCBs for vehicle management, DSP, and networking systems used in defense products.
The role requires driving FPGA/HDL workflows, overseeing PCB development from requirements through bring-up, and coordinating across teams to deliver hardware and IP cores on schedule.
Experience Level
Senior-level - requires 7+ years of relevant experience and prior experience leading an electrical engineering team focused on digital design.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include technical leadership, design reviews, and managing the hardware development lifecycle.
- Lead and mentor an electrical engineering team producing FPGA/SoC and PCB-based solutions.
- Define and improve FPGA/HDL design workflows: architecture, simulation, verification, and system testing.
- Independently review high-speed digital and compute-focused hardware designs.
- Oversee full PCB development cycle for host boards (requirements, schematic capture, layout, bring-up, test, integration).
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define hardware and IP delivery strategy across the organization.
- Create and communicate detailed product development schedules and task ownership to meet deadlines.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, security eligibility, and domain experience.
- 7+ years designing, testing, and troubleshooting complex board-level hardware in military, automotive, or similar domains.
- Proven experience leading an electrical engineering team focused on digital design.
- Proficiency in an HDL (VHDL or Verilog) and FPGA design methodologies.
- Familiarity with common FPGA, CPU, MCU, and GPU devices and architectures.
- Experience with standard interfaces: Ethernet, CAN, I2C, SPI, PCIe, USB.
- Design experience for signal integrity and power integrity considerations.
- Solid knowledge of modern analog and digital electronics and circuits.
- Competence using test equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, thermal chambers, current probes) and automating tests.
- Proficiency with Altium Designer or equivalent EDA tools.
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance.
Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with DO-254, DO-178C, DO-160, DO-311A compliance processes.
- Familiarity with MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-461.
- Expertise in computer networking and implementing enhanced security measures.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience; equivalent technical experience will be considered.
