Digital Failure Analysis Engineer (R&D)
Role Summary
Perform electrical failure analysis to diagnose defects, performance and design-related issues during technology development. Work with test engineering, design teams and physical failure analysis labs to isolate failures, correlate electrical signatures to physical defects, and develop segmentation and test algorithms to support qualification and yield improvement. Locations: Lehi, UT and Dallas, TX.
Experience Level
Mid-level β requires 5+ years of electrical failure analysis experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include electrical debugging, characterization, and cross-functional correlation.
- Collect and analyze debug data from internal FA tests and with Test Engineering to identify failure signatures.
- Perform electrical failure characterization using production and custom test patterns to isolate failing circuitry.
- Develop and implement test and segmentation algorithms to identify and reproduce failures.
- Coordinate with design, test, and PFA labs to correlate electrical signatures with physical defects.
- Document findings and support wafer-yield investigations, qualifications, quality excursions, and customer returns.
- Adhere to lab safety procedures and maintain accurate test records.
Requirements
Must-have technical experience and abilities.
- 5+ years performing electrical failure analysis on semiconductor devices.
- Familiarity with digital circuit operation and scan-based test methodologies; experience interpreting scan test data.
- Experience with electrical FA techniques such as photon emission analysis, laser-assisted fault isolation, and waveform acquisition.
- Ability to work collaboratively across design, test, failure analysis, and manufacturing/process development teams.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience interpreting SEM/TEM/FIB/EDS/EELS images.
- Knowledge of semiconductor fabrication processes and mixed-signal or digital IC design environments.
- Familiarity with memory mapping tools and ATPG diagnostics (for example, Cadence Modus, Synopsys Tetramax).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical and Computer Engineering (Bachelor's Degree specified in the posting).
