Job Title
Diagnostics Software Engineer
Role Summary
Join the Diagnostics & Calibration software team to design, develop, and deliver software that diagnoses and calibrates KLA reticle inspection platforms. The role works closely with physicists, hardware engineers, system teams, and global software organizations to translate system-level requirements into robust diagnostic and calibration solutions.
The position includes prototyping and productionizing AI/ML and generative-AI tools to accelerate diagnostics, calibration, and engineering workflows.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Typical requirement is 4+ years of software development experience (or 2+ years with a Master's degree).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include software development, system integration, and AI-assisted tooling for diagnostics and calibration of inspection platforms.
- Design, develop, test, and maintain LabVIEW-based and multi-language software for diagnostics and calibration of reticle inspection platforms.
- Learn existing software architecture and contribute clean, maintainable, well-tested code.
- Translate system-level and user requirements into software designs, implementations, and test plans.
- Explore and apply AI/ML and generative-AI techniques (LLMs, agents, copilots) to build tools that improve diagnostics, calibration, productivity, and data analysis.
- Rapidly prototype AI-driven proofs-of-concept and mature successful prototypes into production-ready tools.
- Improve reliability, maintainability, performance, and scalability through design and refactoring.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automated build/test/release workflows.
- Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and development best practices.
- Partner cross-functionally with hardware, subsystem, system, manufacturing, and service teams for integrated solutions.
- Perform root-cause analysis of complex system-level issues and implement sustainable fixes.
- Travel occasionally to global sites and customer locations (up to ~10%).
Requirements
Key must-have skills and experience.
- 4+ years software development experience (or 2+ years with a Master's).
- Proficiency in object-oriented design and experience with one or more languages such as Python, C++, or C#.
- Hands-on experience or demonstrable practice building applications with LLMs / generative AI (fine-tuning, RAG, agent frameworks, or API integration).
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools and practices (Git, Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps).
- Background in software that interfaces with hardware and exhibits system-level behavior.
- Ability to translate user needs and system requirements into technical specifications and executable plans.
- Strong problem-solving, debugging, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience in diagnostics, calibration, machine control, inspection, or metrology systems.
- Experience with semiconductor capital equipment or similar complex hardware platforms.
- Familiarity with computer vision, image processing, or image analysis techniques.
- Certified LabVIEW Developer (CLD) or equivalent experience.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, a physical science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Optics, Microscopy, or a related technical field. (The posting specifies 4+ years experience with a Bachelor's or 2+ years with a Master's.)
