QualcommJob Title
Design Verification Engineer - NPU (Engineer to Sr. Staff Engineer)
Role Summary
Work on Qualcomm's Hexagon DSP AI verification team to design and execute hardware verification for NPU/CPU/GPU/DSP blocks. The role focuses on creating verification environments, random-test methodologies, and ensuring correctness and performance of high-speed processor designs.
Position is within the ASICS Engineering group; the role emphasizes engineering rigor, problem solving, and potential progression into technical leadership.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Years-of-experience guidance depends on degree: Bachelor's +6 years, Master's +5 years, PhD +4 years (see Education Requirements).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include defining verification strategy, creating tests, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver correct hardware.
- Develop verification plans and build random test generators and verification environments for NPU/CPU/GPU/DSP designs.
- Implement tests and testbenches; reproduce and debug RTL simulation and silicon issues.
- Define verification requirements and coverage targets from architecture and microarchitecture specifications.
- Collaborate with architects, design, firmware, validation, and integration teams to find and resolve functional issues.
- Improve verification automation, tooling, and processes; mentor and guide less-experienced engineers.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and domain experience.
- Proven experience verifying high-speed CPU/GPU/DSP or NPU hardware using random test generation methodologies.
- Strong knowledge of design verification methods and hands-on ASIC design, verification, validation, or integration experience.
- Proficiency in programming for test development and automation (C, C++, Python).
- Solid understanding of computer architecture, embedded systems, and high-performance microprocessor design.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills and ability to work in fast-paced engineering teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with large-scale verification flows and prior leadership or mentorship responsibilities.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or related field plus 6+ years of ASIC/verification experience, OR Master's degree plus 5+ years, OR PhD plus 4+ years. Mentioned fields include Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical fields. Equivalent practical experience may be considered.
