Job Title
Design Verification Engineer
Role Summary
Join the Data Processing Unit (DPU) front-end silicon team within Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE). The role focuses on functional and system-level verification of high-performance, low-power, programmable DPU ASICs for datacenter use.
Experience Level
Entry / Early-career. The posting requires at least 2+ years of related technical engineering experience (see Education Requirements for degree-equivalent options).
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include pre- and post-silicon verification, test development, and cross-functional execution for complex SoC designs.
- Lead functional validation of complex ASIC SoCs using UVM/C testbenches.
- Define and execute pre-silicon SoC verification strategies and post-silicon/FPGA validation plans.
- Develop test plans, C tests, and infrastructure; run tests and report bugs.
- Debug test failures, create stress and performance scenarios to meet test objectives.
- Participate in chip bring-up and write test firmware to support validation and integration.
- Collaborate with architecture, design, verification, and partner teams and influence next-generation designs.
- Improve validation efficiency through tooling and methodology enhancements.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed where applicable.
-
Must-have: 2+ years of pre-silicon validation experience with network accelerators/switches, CPUs, vector processors, GPUs, or equivalent domain experience.
-
Must-have: Experience with UVM and C-based verification methodologies and testbench development.
-
Must-have: Hands-on experience with FPGA or post-silicon validation, test execution, and failure analysis.
-
Must-have: Ability to develop C tests, test infrastructure, and firmware for chip bring-up and validation.
-
Must-have: Strong debugging skills and experience creating stress/performance scenarios.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience defining and developing complex SoCs and deep understanding of processor and peripheral interconnect bus protocols and architectures.
- Ability to meet Microsoft Cloud Background Check and other required security screenings.
Education Requirements
Degrees accepted: Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. The posting also allows equivalent practical experience and counts relevant internship experience toward experience requirements.
