Design Engineer IV
Role Summary
Senior staff engineer responsible for leading custom silicon design projects from specification through manufacturing. Works closely with product engineering and cross-functional groups (test, packaging, quality, production) to deliver designs to fab.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Typical guidance: 8–10 years of custom silicon design experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Engage with customers to clarify requirements and deliver design solutions.
- Apply and enforce solid silicon design methodology and best practices.
- Document designs, provide schedule estimates, and report project challenges.
- Incorporate feedback from management, customers, and peers into designs.
- Lead and participate in team and cross-functional meetings across groups.
- Mentor junior engineers on tools, practices, and task-specific skills.
- Support handoff of designs to fab and work through manufacturing issues.
- Perform other assignments as requested.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- 8–10 years of custom silicon/semiconductor design experience.
- Proven ability to define and execute tasks required to get a semiconductor design to fab and through manufacturing.
- Proficiency with job-specific EDA software; may require coding or learning tool-specific languages.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; effective team player.
- Ability to estimate schedules, document work, and communicate technical trade-offs.
- Confidence in proposing solutions and openness to feedback for improvement.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience collaborating with test, packaging, quality, and production control teams.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering (BSEE, BSCS, BSCE) is required. No additional certifications specified.
