Design Engineer II
Cadence Design SystemsJob Title
Design Engineer II
Role Summary
Develop firmware for physical-layer IPs (high-speed SERDES) across architecture, implementation, verification, validation, and customer deployment. Work on a cross-functional team with PHY digital and mixed-signal architects, verification, validation, and product engineering.
Experience Level
Mid-level - typically 4β6 years of relevant firmware or electrical/electronics engineering experience.
Responsibilities
Deliver firmware features and support validation, silicon debug, and customer deployments for high-speed serial-link PHY IP.
- Collaborate with PHY digital and mixed-signal architects to define firmware functions, sequences, and architecture.
- Implement firmware features and unit/system control software for adaptation, equalization, and control algorithms.
- Work with verification and validation teams to create and execute test plans and ensure robustness.
- Support FuSa-compliant firmware development and associated validation activities.
- Support post-silicon electrical and system characterization; identify and fix firmware- and hardware-related issues.
- Assist product engineering and customers with IP debug and provide hot-fixes during deployments.
- Create and maintain documentation for firmware design, development, bug fixes, and compliance testing.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and workplace expectations, plus common preferred qualifications.
- Must-have: Solid programming skills in C/C++ and Python.
- Must-have: Proven ability to develop firmware across the full lifecycle for high-speed SERDES (architecture through deployment).
- Must-have: Strong problem-solving skills and effective verbal/written communication; able to work independently and in teams.
- Nice-to-have: Understanding of wireline communication principles and digital signal processing techniques.
- Nice-to-have: Knowledge of mixed-signal circuit design.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with silicon validation, post-silicon debug, and electrical/system characterization.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with digital verification environments and tools.
- Nice-to-have: Understanding of Functional Safety (FuSa) compliance.
Education Requirements
B.Tech (Electrical/Electronics Engineering) with ~6 years of experience, or M.Tech (Electrical/Electronics Engineering) with ~4 years of experience as stated in the posting.
