Job Title
Design Engineer I - Modem Design
Role Summary
Join the PHYMAC MODEM team responsible for the digital components of Silicon Labs' low-power wireless SoCs. The team designs efficient digital systems that enable wireless connectivity for smart home, industrial IoT, and smart city applications.
This role delivers RTL implementations, verification, integration, and bring-up of digital modem blocks and works closely with cross-functional teams to translate wireless system requirements into silicon-ready digital architectures.
Experience Level
Entry-level (Design Engineer I). Typical experience: 0–3 years.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, model, and verify digital blocks for low-power wireless products.
- Develop RTL implementations and verification environments to ensure functionality and performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to map wireless system requirements into digital architectures.
- Debug and resolve design and verification issues throughout development.
- Contribute to integration, bring-up, and validation of digital modules within SoC designs.
- Develop scripts and tools to improve design, verification, and testing efficiency.
- Document design decisions and verification results; present technical findings to the engineering team.
Requirements
Summary of required and preferred technical skills.
Must-have:
- Experience with RTL design using Verilog and/or SystemVerilog.
- Experience with digital design simulation and verification methodologies and tools.
- Understanding of synchronous digital design fundamentals: state machines, timing, and logic optimization.
- Basic programming skills for automation and testing (Python, MATLAB, or similar).
Nice-to-have:
- Knowledge of DSP concepts and digital communications systems.
- Experience with MATLAB modeling for DSP and wireless algorithms.
- Experience with Questa tools and RTL verification flows.
- Familiarity with wireless standards (Bluetooth Low Energy, Zigbee, Thread, Wi‑Fi) or proprietary protocols.
- Experience with FPGA development, hardware bring-up, or lab-based debugging.
- Exposure to ASIC/SoC design flows: synthesis, linting, CDC analysis, or formal verification.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field (degree explicitly listed in the posting).
