Job Title

Design Engineer 5

Role Summary

Senior-level hardware design engineer responsible for development and delivery of digital logic for FPGA/ASIC products. Works within a product design team to implement RTL, verify functionality, and support tapeout and bring-up activities.

The role involves cross-functional collaboration with verification, CAD, system engineering, and product management to meet performance, power, and schedule targets.

Experience Level

Senior. Typically a senior individual contributor (Level 5) with substantial industry experience; commonly 7+ years of relevant design experience.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include hands-on RTL development, design closure, and collaboration to deliver silicon features.

  • Design and implement RTL (Verilog/SystemVerilog or VHDL) for digital blocks and IP.
  • Create and execute verification plans and work with verification engineers to debug issues.
  • Perform synthesis, timing closure, and constraint development using EDA tools.
  • Work with physical design, CAD, and test teams to ensure successful integration and tapeout.
  • Optimize designs for area, power, and performance trade-offs.
  • Mentor junior engineers and participate in design reviews.
  • Document designs, trade-offs, and validation results for handoff and production support.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; kept concise.

  • Proven experience in RTL design using Verilog/SystemVerilog or VHDL.
  • Experience with FPGA/ASIC flows: synthesis, STA/timing closure, and implementation tools.
  • Strong debugging skills using simulation, waveform analysis, and lab bring-up tools.
  • Familiarity with EDA toolchains (synthesis, simulation, static timing analysis).
  • Proficiency in scripting (Python, TCL, or similar) for automation and build flows.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills for cross-functional engineering work.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with Lattice device architectures, high-speed interfaces, or formal verification tools.

Education Requirements

Not specified.
