Job Title
Design Engineer 5
Role Summary
Senior-level hardware design engineer responsible for development and delivery of digital logic for FPGA/ASIC products. Works within a product design team to implement RTL, verify functionality, and support tapeout and bring-up activities.
The role involves cross-functional collaboration with verification, CAD, system engineering, and product management to meet performance, power, and schedule targets.
Experience Level
Senior. Typically a senior individual contributor (Level 5) with substantial industry experience; commonly 7+ years of relevant design experience.
Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include hands-on RTL development, design closure, and collaboration to deliver silicon features.
- Design and implement RTL (Verilog/SystemVerilog or VHDL) for digital blocks and IP.
- Create and execute verification plans and work with verification engineers to debug issues.
- Perform synthesis, timing closure, and constraint development using EDA tools.
- Work with physical design, CAD, and test teams to ensure successful integration and tapeout.
- Optimize designs for area, power, and performance trade-offs.
- Mentor junior engineers and participate in design reviews.
- Document designs, trade-offs, and validation results for handoff and production support.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; kept concise.
- Proven experience in RTL design using Verilog/SystemVerilog or VHDL.
- Experience with FPGA/ASIC flows: synthesis, STA/timing closure, and implementation tools.
- Strong debugging skills using simulation, waveform analysis, and lab bring-up tools.
- Familiarity with EDA toolchains (synthesis, simulation, static timing analysis).
- Proficiency in scripting (Python, TCL, or similar) for automation and build flows.
- Good communication and teamwork skills for cross-functional engineering work.
- Nice-to-have: experience with Lattice device architectures, high-speed interfaces, or formal verification tools.
Education Requirements
Not specified.
