Job Title

Design Automation Engineer (TFM/EDA)

Role Summary

Join Intel Foundry Automation supporting government programs to install, maintain, and support design and compute environments for external foundry customers. The role focuses on design TFM (tools, flows, methodology), EDA tool support, PDK integration, and automation to enable timely tapeout and scalable workflows.

Experience Level

Responsibilities

Provide technical support and automation to ensure designers can complete tapeout and ramp designs efficiently.

  • Diagnose and resolve designer tool and methodology issues through to TapeOut.
  • Install, maintain, and automate design environments (PDKs, EDA tools, licenses, flows).
  • Support design ramp-up with training, documentation, and collateral for PDK usage.
  • Integrate new tools and methods into existing flows and ensure scalability.
  • Coordinate with EDA vendors to ensure required tool features and quality.
  • Partner with PDK/library experts, flow development teams, and product design teams.
  • Work with engineering computing (EC) teams to provision and debug compute, storage, and netbatch issues.
  • Create automation (scripts, checkers) to simplify and accelerate installation and verification of design environments.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain US Government TS/SCI clearance.
  • Experience with front-end and back-end EDA tools, flows, and methodologies; debugging and problem solving in EDA environments.
  • Experience in physical design, optimization, and design TFM (tools, flows, methodology).
  • Scripting skills: Tcl, Perl, Python; familiarity with Verilog or VHDL for integration tasks.
  • Linux experience (bash, tcsh) and familiarity with compute/storage/netbatch environments.
  • Proven ability to install or automate EDA tool and PDK deployments is preferred.
  • Good communication, networking, and presentation skills; able to produce documentation and training materials.

Education Requirements

Minimum: Bachelor's of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering with 3+ years of relevant experience, or Master's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with 2+ years of relevant experience.
