Job Title

Design Automation Engineer - Neuromorphic Computing

Role Summary

Develop and maintain design automation, tool flows, and infrastructure for neuromorphic silicon. Work across front-end design, physical implementation, verification, and FPGA-based emulation to move novel asynchronous designs from concept to silicon.

This role supports productization of Loihi-series research chips and requires strong software skills, EDA expertise, and experience applying AI-driven automation to engineering workflows.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The role expects multiple years of experience with ASIC design flows and automation; see Education Requirements for formal degree/experience options.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Enhance and maintain asynchronous EDA tool flows by implementing design automation algorithms, tools, utilities, and regression tests.
  • Support RTL designers, verification, and physical-design teams with automated solutions to meet product quality and target KPIs.
  • Enable early software development by creating scalable frameworks that map silicon designs to simulation and FPGA-based emulation.
  • Write and maintain custom scripts to control synthesis and physical-design tools for low-power, high-performance designs.
  • Integrate AI-driven automation and generative tools to improve productivity, debugging, and flow setup.

Requirements

Must-have and preferred qualifications (concise):

  • Experience developing and maintaining ASIC tool suites (synthesis, place & route, ATPG, FEV, RV, STA, LVS/DRC).
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, TCL, Perl.
  • Experience delivering silicon tape-outs and supporting RTL-to-silicon flows.
  • Strong software development skills for production-quality automation, tools, and regression frameworks.
  • Familiarity with asynchronous design methods or willingness to learn and integrate them with standard EDA tools.
  • Preferred: SystemVerilog/SystemC and object-oriented programming experience.
  • Preferred: experience with large-scale FPGA platforms (e.g., HAPS) or emulation frameworks (e.g., ZeBu).
  • Preferred: practical experience using AI tools to set up flows, debug, and improve engineering productivity.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree plus 4+ years of relevant experience, or Master's degree plus 2+ years of relevant experience in a technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
