Design Application Engineering Intern (Summer 2027)

Role Summary

Support design enablement and customer engagements from concept through tape-out with a focus on first-time-right execution. Work with Application Engineering, EDA partners, and technology teams to reproduce and resolve design issues, recommend solutions, and produce technical collateral.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship for students; this is a full-time summer internship position.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include troubleshooting, coordinating technical efforts, and producing customer-facing documentation.

• Review and reproduce customer and design enablement issues; assess design-flow requirements and recommend solutions.
• Collaborate with application engineers, subject matter experts, EDA partners, and technology teams to support design enablement and meet customer deadlines.
• Track actions, risks, customer cases, technical milestones, and closure criteria; support process-improvement projects.
• Develop presentations, application notes, evaluation summaries, and technical documentation to communicate technology differentiation and design guidance.
• Perform work in a safe and compliant manner following Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements.

Requirements

Must-have and preferred qualifications for candidates.

• Must-have: English fluency (written and verbal); ability to work at least 40 hours per week during the internship; good communication and teamwork skills; ability to follow safety and EHS requirements.
• Nice-to-have: prior internship or co-op experience; leadership experience; interest in using AI tools to improve productivity; project management and organization skills; strong written and verbal communication.
• Technical (preferred): coursework or project experience in digital design, place & route, standard-cell design, analog, silicon photonics, mixed-signal design, simulation, layout, verification, or device physics; familiarity with EDA tools such as Cadence Virtuoso, Synopsys OptoCompiler, Calibre or Pegasus; Linux; Verilog/Verilog-AMS; PDKs and IC design flows.

Education Requirements

At least a sophomore at time of application and actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from an accredited program during the internship period. Minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and in good academic standing.
