Deputy Director, Product Platforms
GlobalFoundriesJob Title
Deputy Director, Product Platforms
Role Summary
Lead product strategy and execution for a differentiated compute-platform portfolio (primarily 12nm). Convert processor, memory, interconnect, accelerator, I/O, software, and tooling assets into scalable platform families and derivative products that achieve design wins, launches, and revenue growth.
Experience Level
Senior - requires 8+ years of semiconductor or embedded-computing/platform experience, including 5+ years in product management, platform leadership, product marketing, applications, systems, or comparable customer-facing technical leadership.
Responsibilities
Accountable for platform vision, cross-functional execution, commercial outcomes, and ecosystem development.
- Define and own multi-year platform vision, product strategy, roadmap, business plan, and investment priorities for the 12nm compute portfolio.
- Maintain architecture and IP-reuse strategy anchored in 12nm with extension rules to adjacent nodes when justified.
- Translate market trends and customer use cases into platform requirements across CPU, memory, interconnect/NoC, accelerators, I/O, security, package, power, software, and tools.
- Create coherent platform families and derivative strategies (configurations, chiplets, customer IP integration, companion devices).
- Own product requirements, target specifications, competitive positioning, pricing, business cases, lifecycle plans, and go/no-go recommendations.
- Lead cross-functional execution with architecture, design, verification, physical design, package, test, validation, software, operations, quality, finance, sales, and marketing.
- Drive full launch process: concept, pre-silicon enablement, sampling, production release, market launch, customer ramp, and post-launch optimization.
- Build whole-product deliverables: virtual platforms, FPGA prototypes, evaluation systems, SDKs, OS enablement, drivers, toolchains, reference designs, documentation, and training.
- Develop and manage an external ecosystem of IP providers, EDA partners, OS/middleware vendors, tools vendors, design services, and board/distribution partners.
- Engage with strategic customers and field teams to create pipeline, convert engagements into design wins, and support ramp to production revenue.
- Own platform KPIs: roadmap execution, launch readiness, design wins, qualified pipeline, adoption, margin, forecast accuracy, revenue growth, and ROI.
- Continuously assess competitors, technology shifts, and make build/buy/partner decisions.
- Perform work in compliance with Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements.
Requirements
Must-have skills, experience, and expected competencies.
Must-have:
- 8+ years in semiconductor, embedded-computing, processor, SoC, platform, or closely related product roles, including 5+ years in product management or comparable customer-facing technical leadership.
- Proven record of successful semiconductor or embedded-platform launches and measurable commercial outcomes (design wins, revenue growth, portfolio expansion).
- Strong background with 32-bit or 64-bit compute products; experience with 64-bit MPU, application processors, edge compute, infrastructure, or Linux-class products preferred.
- Demonstrated understanding of SoC hardware and software (architecture, firmware, BSP/SDK, OS, drivers, validation, or product engineering).
- Experience building software/tools/IP ecosystems and managing partner relationships.
- Ability to build market models, product P&Ls, pricing/margin frameworks, investment cases, and forecasts.
- Excellent leadership, influencing, and executive communication skills across matrixed organizations.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with RISC-V, Arm, MIPS, multicore SoCs, MMU/virtualization, coherent fabrics, cache/DDR subsystems, PCIe, Ethernet, SerDes.
- Experience with Linux-class software enablement, virtual platforms, FPGA prototyping, evaluation boards, and developer tooling.
- Exposure to AI/ML acceleration, edge inference, networking offload, functional safety, cybersecurity, HSM/root of trust, or long-lifecycle industrial/automotive products.
- Experience managing process-node, foundry, package, test, yield, supply, cost, and lifecycle tradeoffs.
- Experience leading geographically distributed teams and operating across engineering, field, partner, and executive communities.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, or a closely related technical field is required. An advanced technical or business degree is a plus.
