Job Title

Density Fill Development Engineer Intern

Role Summary

Internship role within Intel Foundry to support development and optimization of engineering tools and workflows that improve developer productivity and platform enablement. Work with software engineers, architects, and product teams to design, implement, and validate tooling and automation.

This is a hands-on engineering internship focused on applying system-level thinking and software engineering fundamentals to real product challenges.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Internship).

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include contributing to tool development, debugging, and cross-team integration.

  • Design, develop, and enhance tools that support engineering workflows (compilers, debuggers, profilers, build systems, and related tooling).
  • Integrate toolchains and assist with performance analysis and feature development to improve developer productivity.
  • Analyze and debug technical issues, identify root causes, and implement fixes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align tool capabilities with platform requirements.
  • Learn and adopt new tools and technologies; participate in team meetings and contribute to project goals.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and practical experience; preferred items listed separately.

  • Must-have: Hands-on experience via course projects, labs, research, or internships demonstrating practical software or engineering work.
  • Must-have: Proficiency in at least one programming language (C, C++, Python, or Java).
  • Must-have: Ability to debug and analyze root causes and to learn new tools quickly.
  • Must-have: Strong written and verbal communication; able to work independently and in a team.
  • Nice-to-have: Proficiency in two or more languages (TCL, PERL, SKILL, etc.) and exposure to scripting and automation tools.
  • Nice-to-have: Demonstrated disciplined execution on technical challenges and prior internship or advanced project experience in relevant domains.

Education Requirements

Currently pursuing a master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related engineering field. Relevant coursework includes Digital Design, VLSI Design, Device Physics or CMOS Circuits, Software Engineering, Programming Languages or Compilers, and Computer Architecture. Hands-on experience through course projects, labs, research, or internships is expected.
