Job Title

Defect Analysis Systems Engineer

Role Summary

Lead design, development, and optimization of data systems and automation that support defect analysis and yield improvement in semiconductor manufacturing. Own systems, data workflows, and automation to enable efficient defect detection, root-cause analysis, and trend identification.

Work with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and automation teams to investigate process and equipment issues, implement sustainable solutions, and deploy analytics and ML to improve classification and prediction workflows.

Experience Level

Mid-level — expects around 4+ years of relevant engineering, automation, equipment, data, process, or software-enabled manufacturing experience.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include owning systems and workflows that enable defect analysis and driving solutions that improve yield and reduce recurring issues.

  • Design, develop, and maintain data systems, ETL pipelines, and automation for defect analysis workflows.
  • Implement analytics and ML-based solutions for classification, anomaly detection, and predictive analysis.
  • Extract, validate, and analyze data using SQL and Python; produce visualizations and reports to inform decisions.
  • Troubleshoot complex process, equipment, and data issues and drive root-cause investigations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deploy automation frameworks and integrate solutions into manufacturing operations.
  • Promote adoption of new tools and processes; document solutions and maintain version-controlled code and CI/CD pipelines.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience required for immediate contribution. Preferred items are listed separately.

  • 4+ years of experience in an engineering, automation, equipment, data, process, or software-enabled manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience using Python for automation, data processing, or analysis.
  • Strong working knowledge of SQL for data extraction, validation, and analysis.
  • Experience with data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., JMP, Power BI, Python libraries).
  • Experience using GitHub for version control and CI/CD workflows.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; experience troubleshooting complex systems and data issues.

Nice-to-have / preferred:

  • Experience in semiconductor manufacturing or related high‑tech industries.
  • Familiarity with defect analysis, yield analysis, DOE, SPC, and other manufacturing problem‑solving methods.
  • Experience with equipment automation systems, manufacturing data platforms, cloud-native development, APIs, and automated deployment.
  • Experience applying AI/ML for classification, anomaly detection, or predictive analytics in manufacturing contexts.

Education Requirements

Level 8 degree (NFQ) or higher in a Science or Engineering discipline such as Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Electrical/Electronic/Mechanical/Chemical Engineering, Mechatronics, Nanotechnology, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
