Data Scientist
Micron TechnologyJob Title
Data Scientist
Role Summary
The Data Scientist will develop predictive models, computer vision and multimodal AI solutions to support manufacturing, inspection, and environmental monitoring in a semiconductor fab. The role works with Data Scientists, AI Engineers, and business-area engineers to turn data into actionable solutions and deploy models to production.
Experience Level
Entry-level / Early career - typically 1β2 years of practical experience building and deploying AI solutions in manufacturing, semiconductor, or electronics contexts.
Responsibilities
Deliver end-to-end AI solutions: data preparation, model development, production deployment, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Design and implement computer vision systems for object detection, image segmentation, anomaly detection, and automated inspection (including volume/density measurement and defect monitoring).
- Develop and deploy deep learning models (CNNs, LSTM, transformer architectures) for image classification, time-series anomaly detection, and multimodal tasks using TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras.
- Apply advanced AI techniques such as few-shot learning, generative AI, and multimodal fusion (text, image, time-series) for manufacturing and monitoring challenges.
- Extract, cleanse, and analyze large-scale datasets from SQL databases, cloud platforms (GCP), and image sources; perform outlier detection and missing-data handling.
- Coordinate production deployments using MLOps practices: model monitoring, data-drift detection, versioning, and automated testing.
- Lead cross-functional collaboration with engineering, operations, and quality teams; produce technical documentation and train/mentor engineers.
- Communicate technical concepts and project outcomes to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and proven experience for immediate contribution.
- Minimum 1β2 years developing and deploying scalable AI applications in manufacturing, semiconductor, or electronics industries.
- Computer vision experience (industrial applications) including object detection, image segmentation, automated inspection; familiarity with OpenCV.
- At least 1 year experience with deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow or PyTorch), including CNNs and generative AI techniques.
- Experience working with multimodal datasets (image with text or time-series) and related fusion or analysis methods.
- Strong Python programming skills and at least 1 year of SQL experience; familiarity with distributed computing frameworks such as Spark or Hadoop.
- Experience or familiarity with cloud platforms (GCP) and image-data pipelines.
- Demonstrated analytical problem-solving, ability to work independently, manage priorities, and collaborate across teams; experience in project management and technical writing.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or Artificial Intelligence.
