Data Center Structural Test Solutions Architect

Role Summary

Lead engineering role responsible for developing and implementing structural test methodology for AMD Instinct accelerator solutions across EVT builds through mass production. The role partners with design, platform engineering, board designers, tester vendors, fixture houses and contract manufacturers to identify and resolve SMT, PCB, and component issues and to improve manufacturing test processes.

Experience Level

Senior-level (lead engineering position). Prior experience leading test methodology, debug, and cross-functional initiatives is expected.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include planning, developing, and executing structural test solutions and enabling testability across product development and production.

  • Drive structural test coverage simulation and analysis (AOI, AXI, ICT).
  • Optimize test plans to detect SMT, PCB, and component issues early in the build cycle.
  • Develop test strategy for new product features: identify, specify, design and qualify fixtures, test equipment, and diagnostic software.
  • Review and provide DFT feedback in early design stages to improve testability.
  • Debug complex hardware and software issues during build and NPI phases.
  • Contribute to automated diagnostic generation and validation infrastructure.
  • Develop and maintain test content and solutions, including scripting and tooling in Python.
  • Investigate and introduce new manufacturing test technology and methodology to increase production efficiency.
  • Define ICT capability, hardware design requirements, and board debug capabilities from design review through mass production.
  • Coordinate test fixtures and platform automation with suppliers, contract manufacturers, and global teams.
  • Provide DFM guidance to board designers and layout engineers to meet ICT requirements.
  • Mentor junior engineers and act as a technical leader influencing cross-functional teams.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and practical experience to perform the role.

  • Proven experience developing and deploying DFT/structural test flows and test strategies for complex boards or systems.
  • Proficiency with scripting languages (Perl, Ruby, shell) and experience developing test solutions in Python.
  • Strong Unix/Linux proficiency and experience with revision control systems (GIT, SVN, CVS or similar).
  • Solid knowledge of IPMI, PCIe, BMC, and thermal solutions.
  • Experience with at-speed testing, test insertion, coverage assessment, test pattern development, fault simulation, and debug.
  • Experience in ICT fixture/tester setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting and defining ICT capabilities.
  • Good knowledge of board manufacturing flow, PCB/fixture design, and program management delivering measurable results.
  • Debug experience across hardware, software, device, and manufacturing domains.
  • Familiarity with IEEE JTAG/1149.1 and related test standards and methodologies.
  • Familiarity with Agile/XP/Scrum/Kanban processes; experience as Scrum Master or Product Owner is a plus.
  • Experience with compiled and systems languages such as C, C++, Java, or C#.
  • Ability to work in a global, cross-functional environment and lead initiatives independently.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; this role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Education Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering required; Master of Science preferred.
