CV/ML Systems Engineer, Hardware Architecture
Meta PlatformsJob Title
CV/ML Systems Engineer, Hardware Architecture
Role Summary
Principal-level systems engineer responsible for leading software-to-hardware integration programs that deliver computer vision and machine-learning inference onto custom silicon and sensor platforms for AR/VR and wearable spatial computing products.
Operate at the intersection of program leadership and hardware architecture, coordinating silicon, firmware, platform, and perception teams to meet performance, efficiency, and latency targets for real-time spatial computing workloads.
Experience Level
Senior (principal-level). Requires extensive experience; posting specifies 12+ years of relevant hardware systems architecture experience.
Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate cross-functional programs to integrate CV/ML software onto hardware platforms across multiple product generations.
- Drive organization-wide integration programs, aligning silicon engineering, ML platform, perception algorithms, and hardware systems.
- Define and own end-to-end program roadmaps for deploying inference pipelines on VR headsets, AR glasses, and wearable platforms.
- Lead hardware–software co-design efforts, syncing software milestones with silicon tape-out schedules.
- Establish integration requirements, success criteria, and measurable program milestones tied to perception algorithm demands.
- Identify and mitigate cross-functional dependencies, risks, and bottlenecks.
- Coordinate architectural requirements for custom CV/ML accelerators and SoCs with silicon, firmware, and platform teams.
- Develop program tracking frameworks to measure hardware readiness and software maturity against real-world workloads.
- Engage external silicon partners, sensor vendors, and IP providers to align timelines and technologies.
- Report program status, trade-offs, and roadmap decisions to executive leadership and stakeholders.
- Define benchmarking methodologies and validation criteria spanning sensor ingestion to algorithm execution.
Requirements
Must-have technical and program leadership experience required for success in this role.
- 12+ years of experience in hardware systems architecture focused on computer vision, ML inference, or high-performance signal processing.
- Experience defining SoC or system-level architecture for CV/ML inference workloads, including ISP pipelines, compute hierarchy, memory subsystem, and interconnect topology.
- Practical knowledge of hardware–software co-design for on-device CV/ML: ML compiler stacks, operator fusion, quantization implications, and algorithm profiling.
- Experience building system performance models and using simulation or analytical methods to evaluate architectural trade-offs for real-time workloads.
- Proven track record driving multi-year hardware architecture roadmaps and influencing silicon strategy across large engineering organizations.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience translating novel perception models into hardware-efficient deployment targets on custom silicon.
- Experience with power- and area-constrained wearable or mobile CV/ML inference systems (VR/AR platforms).
- Familiarity with emerging memory and sensor technologies (event cameras, time-of-flight, near-sensor compute).
- Knowledge of perception workloads such as SLAM, depth estimation, hand/eye tracking, segmentation, or neural radiance field rendering.
Education Requirements
Not specified.
