Custom Layout Designer (Analog Layout Designer)
Cadence Design SystemsJob Title
Custom Layout Designer (Analog Layout Designer)
Role Summary
Design and implement high-performance analog and mixed-signal custom layouts for IP and test chips, collaborating with circuit designers, verification engineers, and Cadence R&D. Work covers the full back-end flow from floor planning through detailed layout and final foundry verification.
The Cadence IP Group custom layout team targets advanced CMOS nodes (down to 5 nm and beyond), including finFET and gate-all-around technologies, and validates Cadence Virtuoso and verification tools.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The posting does not specify years of experience but expects demonstrated experience in analog/mixed-signal layout and back-end flow.
Responsibilities
Deliver quality custom layouts and collaborate across global teams and tool developers.
- Perform floor planning, detailed layout, and final verification to meet foundry DRC/LVS rules.
- Implement high-speed and high-accuracy cells, blocks, and IP efficiently and on schedule.
- Collaborate with circuit designers worldwide to address technical and schedule requirements.
- Work with other Cadence layout teams to integrate IP and test chips.
- Partner with Cadence R&D teams (Virtuoso, PVS) to validate and improve layout editing and verification tools.
Requirements
Must-have skills and attributes; a short list of desirable items follows.
- Proven ability to produce analog/mixed-signal custom layouts and complete back-end flow tasks.
- Understanding of layout effects on circuits (speed, capacitance, power, area).
- Familiarity with analog layout techniques such as matching and shielding.
- Experience using Cadence Virtuoso layout tools and physical verification tools.
- Strong teamwork, communication, presentation, and customer-service skills; self-motivated and autonomous.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with advanced process nodes (e.g., 5 nm and below), finFET and GAA technologies.
- Exposure to microelectronics design requirements and IP development for consumer, industrial, or automotive markets.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's (BSEE) or Master's (MSEE) degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
