Custom Analog Design Automation Lead

Role Summary

Lead the strategy and implementation of analog design automation and AI-assisted design flows across custom-analog teams (fabric, SerDes, IO). Drive productivity improvements, reduce manual work, and scale reusable automation and IP hardening practices across multiple design groups.

This is a technical leadership role combining hands-on automation development, AI/ML application to design tasks, and cross-team methodology deployment.

Experience Level

Senior - requires extensive industry experience; the role expects 12+ years of relevant experience in custom-analog circuit design and/or analog design automation.

Responsibilities

Deliver and operationalize automation and AI-assisted tools across analog design domains; mentor teams and report metrics to leadership.

• Define and drive the technical roadmap for analog design automation and AI-assisted productivity tools.
• Develop, deploy, and maintain end-to-end automation flows spanning schematic, layout, verification, and signoff.
• Identify AI/ML opportunities (sizing, layout assistance, verification triage) and lead POC to production deployments.
• Own reuse and hardening strategy for analog IP and automation flows to ensure portability and robustness across projects.
• Partner with design, CAD, and methodology teams to roll out consistent automation across fabric, SerDes, and IO groups.
• Establish and track metrics for productivity, quality, and adoption; report progress to engineering leadership.
• Mentor and provide technical direction to design and automation engineers adopting new methodologies.
• Evaluate emerging EDA and AI/ML technologies for potential adoption and integration.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, tools experience, and leadership capabilities required to lead and scale analog design automation.

• 12+ years of experience in custom-analog circuit design and/or analog design automation, with hands-on automation work.
• Practical experience building and maintaining production automation (Cadence SKILL, Python, Tcl, shell).
• Working knowledge of analog/mixed-signal design flows: schematic capture, layout, extraction, verification, and signoff.
• Experience with EDA toolchains such as Cadence Virtuoso/ADE, Spectre, Quantus QRC, Voltus/EMIR, Synopsys HSPICE/PrimeSim, or equivalents.
• Proven record of applying AI/ML to design or verification workflows and taking solutions from POC to production used by other engineers.
• Direct experience with foundry PDKs and working with EDA vendors to debug, characterize, and qualify tool behavior at advanced nodes.
• Strong communication, leadership, and cross-team influence skills; experience mentoring engineers and driving methodology adoption.

Preferred:

• Experience leading a Center of Excellence or cross-functional capability team.
• Experience with machine-learning-assisted EDA tools or building custom AI/ML tooling for circuit design tasks.
• Track record of IP reuse and hardening that reduced cycle time across multiple tapeouts.

Education Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field (the posting specifies BS/MS in EE or CE). No certifications specified.
