CryoCMOS Analog IC Designer, Quantum

Role Summary

Design advanced analog and mixed-signal CMOS integrated circuits and reusable IP for emerging semiconductor applications, with emphasis on cryogenic and quantum-control systems. Work spans circuit architecture, transistor-level design, layout supervision, tapeout, and silicon validation.

The role collaborates with device modeling, PDK, layout, test, and cross-functional teams to deliver validated silicon and production-capable IP.

Experience Level

Mid-level - minimum 5 years of relevant analog or mixed-signal IC design experience.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include full-cycle analog/mixed-signal circuit development, verification, and silicon correlation.

• Design and develop amplifiers, bias/reference circuits, regulators, data converters, oscillators, PLLs, clocking circuits, and drivers.
• Own designs from architecture through schematic, simulation, layout supervision, physical verification, tapeout, and silicon characterization.
• Perform comprehensive circuit analysis across PVT, Monte Carlo/mismatch, noise, stability, linearity, timing, and post-layout parasitic simulations.
• Optimize circuits for wide operating temperature ranges including cryogenic conditions and manage power and layout-dependent effects.
• Collaborate with device modeling and PDK teams to validate models, identify gaps, and provide circuit-level feedback for cryogenic/advanced PDKs.
• Define analog layout requirements and review matching, shielding, isolation, parasitic management, signal/power integrity, and DFM considerations.
• Define silicon test structures, analyze measured data, debug performance issues, and correlate hardware with pre-silicon simulations.
• Lead technical reviews, document design methodology and results, and mentor junior engineers.
• Perform work in a safe manner and support Environmental, Health, Safety & Security programs.

Requirements

Must-have technical qualifications and experience.

• Minimum 5 years of analog or mixed-signal integrated circuit design experience.
• Proven experience taking designs through schematic, simulation, layout, DRC/LVS, parasitic extraction, tapeout, and silicon validation.
• Strong knowledge of CMOS analog fundamentals: device physics, noise, matching, feedback, stability, frequency response, and process variation; PVT and Monte Carlo analysis.
• Proficiency with SPICE-based simulation, layout tools, physical verification, and post-layout extraction flows.
• Ability to analyze complex circuit and silicon performance issues and implement corrective design actions.
• Willingness to travel up to 10% and fluency in written and verbal English.

Nice-to-have (preferred) qualifications.

• Experience with cryogenic CMOS, low-temperature circuit characterization, or quantum-control electronics.
• Experience designing ADCs/DACs, PLLs, LNAs, VGAs, oscillators, voltage/current references, LDOs, or high-speed drivers.
• Experience correlating silicon measurements with simulation and working with device modeling, PDK, or process teams.
• Familiarity with scripting/automation (Python, SKILL, Tcl, or equivalent).
• Project management, strong communication, planning, and organizational skills.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree required: Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics, Computer Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field. Preferred: Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics, or a related technical discipline.
