Cross-Functional Engineer, Staff
QualcommJob Title
Cross-Functional Engineer, Staff
Role Summary
Qualcomm is hiring a cross-functional engineer focused on high-speed electrical wireline systems (e.g., SerDes). The role owns analog and mixed-signal behavioral modeling, system-level and analog verification, calibration definition and implementation, power estimation, and silicon validation support.
The position works cross-functionally with digital verification, firmware, analog/digital design, and silicon validation teams and provides technical mentorship on modeling, verification, calibration, and power estimation.
Experience Level
Senior (Staff). Typical background includes multiple years of ASIC design, verification, or related experience; see Education Requirements for specific degree/experience combinations.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include modeling, verification, calibration, power estimation, and cross-team validation for high-speed SerDes designs.
- Develop and verify behavioral models for analog and mixed-signal circuits to support design and system-level simulations.
- Define and implement calibration algorithms for analog/mixed-signal blocks in collaboration with design and firmware teams.
- Simulate analog subsystems at higher abstraction levels to validate functionality, power, aging, and EMIR characteristics.
- Coordinate system verification with digital verification and firmware engineers for register programming, initialization, power-up calibration, and data-rate changes.
- Support silicon bring-up and correlate pre-silicon models with post-silicon measurements to improve model accuracy and debug issues.
- Develop and maintain power models that track dissipation across data rates, operating conditions, and power states; correlate with post-silicon measurements.
- Mentor engineers on analog behavioral modeling, mixed-signal verification, calibration approaches, and power estimation.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- Strong background in high-speed (106 Gbps and higher) SerDes architecture, modeling, and verification.
- Proficiency in SystemVerilog and behavioral modeling techniques for analog and mixed-signal designs.
- Knowledge of calibration algorithms and equalization techniques for SerDes.
- Experience in high-speed analog/mixed-signal design or modeling, analog/mixed-signal or digital verification, or post-silicon measurements of complex high-speed wireline systems.
- Solid understanding of analog building blocks (ADCs/DACs, clock generation/distribution, analog equalizers, transmitter drivers) and their mixed-signal calibrations.
- Experience with EDA tools for schematic entry and verification and familiarity with SPICE/AMS simulators.
- Proficiency in digital RTL (SystemVerilog), firmware code (C), and digital verification tools and techniques.
Nice-to-have:
- Design experience with CTLE, slicers, high-speed ADCs, VCOs, phase interpolators, bandgap references, voltage regulators, serializers/deserializers, and PLLs.
- Hands-on experience with Cadence, Synopsys, or equivalent AMS/SPICE tools.
- Familiarity with IEEE 802.3 (Ethernet) and OIF standards.
- Scripting for automation (Python, MATLAB) and experience using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, TDR, VNA, spectrum analyzers).
Education Requirements
Minimum qualifications: one of the following combinations-Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with 2+ years analog/mixed-signal IC design experience and 4+ years ASIC design/verification experience; OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with 4+ years ASIC design/verification experience; OR PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related field with 2+ years ASIC design/verification experience. Related fields and equivalent practical experience are considered as described in the original minimum qualifications.
