Job Title

CPU Verification Engineer (RISC-V)

Role Summary

Validate CPU and SoC micro-architectures with a focus on RISC-V. Work with CPU and SoC architects to develop verification plans, create scalable verification environments, execute regressions, and ensure the design is launch-ready.

Experience Level

Mid-level β€” typical experience expectations per minimum qualifications: BS +4 years, MS +3 years, or PhD +2 years of relevant engineering experience.

Responsibilities

Deliver verification for assigned CPU/SoC domains from planning through bring-up and debug.

  • Collaborate with CPU and SoC architects to translate architecture into verification plans and requirements.
  • Develop detailed test and coverage plans and scalable verification methodology.
  • Implement verification environments: stimulus, checkers, assertions, trackers, and coverage infrastructure.
  • Create portable testbenches, transactors, and assembly-level tests for block and subsystem verification.
  • Execute verification activities: design bring-up, DV environment bring-up, regression runs, and failure debug.
  • Track and report verification progress and metrics, including bugs and coverage.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items listed separately.

  • Extensive knowledge of instruction set architectures, particularly RISC-V.
  • Deep understanding of microprocessor verification areas: cache coherence, memory ordering/consistency, prefetching, branch prediction, renaming, speculative execution, and address translation/MMU.
  • Experience with random instruction sequencing (RIS) and block/subsystem/chip-level verification.
  • Experience writing test plans, portable testbenches, transactors, and low-level assembly tests.
  • Familiarity with verification tools and flows: simulators, coverage collection, gate-level simulation, waveform viewers, and mixed-signal verification.
  • Proven ability to debug complex failures and work independently on a design block/unit.
  • Experience leading or mentoring small verification teams (preferred).
  • Nice-to-have: formal methods, assertions-based verification, and silicon bring-up experience.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. Qualifications may be met by equivalent practical experience as specified: BS +4 years, MS +3 years, or PhD +2 years of relevant engineering experience.
