CPU Verification Engineer
QualcommJob Title
CPU Verification Engineer
Role Summary
Design Verification Engineer responsible for verifying CPU and SoC micro-architectures. Work with architects to develop verification plans, build verification environments, execute regressions, debug failures, and report progress toward launch readiness.
Experience Level
Mid-level (Level - Mid-Career). No explicit years-of-experience requirement stated.
Responsibilities
The engineer will own verification for a designated functional domain within the CPU/SoC and ensure correctness and coverage for launch.
- Collaborate with CPU and SoC architects to understand architecture and micro-architecture requirements.
- Develop detailed test and coverage plans based on architecture and micro-architecture.
- Create verification methodology and scalable, portable verification environments.
- Implement stimulus, checkers, assertions, trackers, and coverage components for the verification environment.
- Develop testbenches, regressions, and transactors for the assigned functional domain.
- Execute bring-up, enable regressions for features under care, and debug test failures to closure.
- Track and report verification progress using metrics including bugs and coverage.
Requirements
Must-have skills and tools expected for the role, with preferred items noted.
- Must-have: Experience in design verification for CPU or SoC components; ability to develop verification environments and portable testbenches.
- Must-have: Ability to write test and coverage plans and to run/debug regression suites and bring-up failures to resolution.
- Must-have: Familiarity with verification methodologies and tools (simulators, coverage collection, gate-level simulation, waveform viewers).
- Preferred: Deep knowledge of microprocessor features such as cache coherence, memory ordering, prefetching, branch prediction, renaming, speculative execution, and address translation/MMU.
- Preferred: Experience with Random Instruction Sequencing (RIS), assembly-level testing, assertions, formal methods, and silicon bring-up.
- Preferred: Experience leading small verification teams and working independently on a block/unit of design.
Education Requirements
Minimum of a BS degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science.
