CPU Verification Engineer, Director
Role Summary
Technical leader responsible for directing development and verification of high-performance, low-power CPU designs. Works with cross-functional stakeholders across architecture, design, verification, and validation to define requirements, trade-offs, and verification strategies for CPU products.
This role includes supervisory responsibility and significant influence over program and product decisions.
Experience Level
Senior-level (Director). Position expects extensive industry experience and technical leadership background.
Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate CPU design and verification efforts; ensure design completeness, functionality, power, and performance.
- Direct development and verification of CPU architecture, micro-architecture, logic, and physical implementation.
- Define requirements, specifications, and trade-offs with stakeholders to meet product goals.
- Oversee identification and resolution of complex design and verification issues across pre-silicon and post-silicon phases.
- Establish verification guidelines, test plans, functional models, and checkers; drive verification strategy and quality criteria.
- Communicate technical expectations and documentation standards across teams (features, architecture, verification plans).
- Manage technical teams and provide supervision to managers or supervisors; participate in budgetary and program decisions.
Requirements
Key technical skills and prior experience required or strongly preferred.
- Extensive experience in high-performance microprocessor design and verification (preferred: 16+ years).
- Proficient in high-level programming (C, C++) and scripting (Perl, Python).
- Experience with simulators, waveform debugging, RTL languages (e.g., Verilog, VHDL) and industry-standard synthesis/place-and-route and verification tools.
- Experience with simulation, emulation, formal verification, or silicon validation.
- Experience creating functional models, checkers, test plans, and test generation infrastructure.
- Proven technical leadership (preferred: multiple years in leadership roles) and ability to interact with senior leadership.
- Experience working in large matrixed organizations and managing operating budgets or project financials.
Education Requirements
Requires a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Minimum options listed: Bachelor's + 8+ years, Master's + 7+ years, or PhD + 6+ years of related engineering experience. Preferred: Master's degree. Equivalent practical experience in hardware/software/systems engineering is acceptable where specified.
