Job Title

CPU Technology Intern

Role Summary

Six-month internship within Arm's CPU Technology team based in Sophia Antipolis, focusing on CPU microarchitecture, performance analysis, and tooling to characterize Arm-based systems.

Interns will join experienced CPU and performance architects and work on one of two projects: Device Analysis (performance tooling and automated data workflows) or CPU Microarchitecture (system-to-CPU information modelling and evaluation).

Experience Level

Entry-level internship (suitable for students and early-career candidates). The role is a fixed-term internship with a 6-month duration starting in 2027.

Responsibilities

Contribute to research, tooling, and experiments that improve understanding of CPU behaviour and performance.

  • Develop and extend tooling and methodologies for CPU performance analysis on real devices (Device Analysis).
  • Automate performance experiments, data collection, processing, and analysis across devices and workloads.
  • Investigate system-to-CPU information, evaluate useful information granularity/timescales, and assess value via modelling and simulation (CPU Microarchitecture).
  • Use tools to run experiments on real hardware and interpret results to provide microarchitecture and workload insights.
  • Collaborate with CPU and performance architects; document findings and reusable workflows.

Requirements

Minimum practical skills and eligibility required for successful internship performance.

  • Solid programming experience in low-level languages such as C, C++ or Python and familiarity with Linux development environments.
  • Good understanding of computer architecture fundamentals and interest in CPU performance analysis.
  • Ability to work in a team, strong curiosity, and willingness to learn.
  • Must have the right to work in France for the full duration of the internship; Arm cannot provide visa sponsorship for this role.
  • Ability to provide university contact details and participate in the required French internship agreement (Convention de Stage).

Nice-to-have:

  • Familiarity with CPU microarchitecture concepts and hardware performance monitoring (PMU).
  • Experience with Linux performance analysis tools and methodologies.
  • Experience with scripting, automation, or data analysis workflows.

Education Requirements

Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD program in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field; alternative degrees considered if supported by relevant experience. French internships require a Convention de Stage (tripartite internship agreement). Equivalent practical experience may be considered where applicable.
