CPU Technology Architect

Role Summary

Join Arm's CPU Technology team in the Central Technology Group to research, define, and architect next-generation CPU concepts. The role focuses on analyzing CPU performance, proposing new technologies (particularly for domains such as computer vision and machine learning), and collaborating with implementation teams to improve performance and efficiency.

Responsibilities

The role combines research, performance analysis, technology definition, and collaboration with engineering and business teams.

  • Analyze CPU performance using models, emulators, and silicon to identify bottlenecks.
  • Study the competitive landscape and identify missing technologies relevant to future solutions (e.g., computer vision, machine learning).
  • Propose and scope new CPU technologies and investigations.
  • Work with CPU implementation teams to support integration of new technologies and optimise performance and efficiency.
  • Communicate technical results to engineering and business stakeholders.

Requirements

Must-have:

  • Experience developing software and/or hardware, including C/C++ and Arm assembly.
  • Comfortable working in Linux environments; experience with shell and Python or Perl scripting.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and collaboratively across distributed teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with CPU performance analysis.
  • Familiarity with advanced CPU techniques such as branch prediction or prefetchers.
  • Software optimisation experience in domains such as HPC, machine learning, Android applications, or the Linux kernel.
  • Experience working on immature technologies and tracking advances in the field.

Education Requirements

University degree (e.g., Bachelor's) in Computer Science, Electronic/Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
