Job Title

CPU RTL/AI Micro-Architect - AI Development

Role Summary

Design and evolve CPU RTL and microarchitecture workflows by integrating AI-augmented tools to accelerate RTL development, analysis, and debug for datacenter-class CPU designs. The role sits within CPU Engineering and collaborates with CAD, DV, verification, and global design teams to scale AI-enabled methodologies across projects.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typical candidates have multiple years of relevant hardware or software engineering experience; exact experience expectations vary by degree (see Education Requirements).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities focus on applying AI to RTL development and integrating those capabilities into established design toolchains.

  • Apply and extend internal AI tools and agent-based workflows to improve RTL productivity.
  • Develop AI-driven capabilities for RTL code review, spec↔RTL alignment, and automated debug acceleration (waveform triage, root-cause identification).
  • Enable AI-assisted analysis for timing, power, area (PPA) tradeoffs and microarchitectural bottlenecks.
  • Integrate AI features into existing lint, synthesis, simulation, and debug toolchains rather than creating separate flows.
  • Collaborate with CAD, DV, and global teams to scale AI-enabled workflows and contribute to cross-team initiatives and best practices.
  • Evolve RTL methodology by embedding AI-assisted coding standards, review processes, and documentation alignment.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience to perform the role.

  • Proven RTL design skills in Verilog/SystemVerilog or VHDL and experience with simulation and waveform-based debug.
  • Experience integrating tools or automation into RTL design flows and with verification toolchains.
  • Practical knowledge of timing, power, and area analysis and how microarchitecture decisions affect PPA.
  • Strong software tooling ability (scripting, workflow integration, working with CI/tool orchestration).
  • Ability to collaborate across CAD, DV, and design teams and to scale solutions across programs and geographies.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to produce actionable insights early in the design cycle.

Preferred:

  • Experience with AI/LLM-based engineering tools, agentic tools, prompting, chaining, or orchestration.
  • Familiarity with low-power microarchitecture techniques and high-performance CPU tradeoffs.
  • Background in developing or deploying AI-assisted code-review or automated debug tooling.

Education Requirements

One of the following: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field plus 6+ years of relevant engineering experience; OR Master's degree in those fields plus 5+ years of relevant experience; OR PhD in those fields plus 4+ years of relevant experience. The posting allows equivalent related work experience in lieu of degree-specific expectations.
