CPU Power Management and Performance Architect
Intel CorporationJob Title
CPU Power Management and Performance Architect
Role Summary
Define and drive CPU power-management and performance architecture for next-generation mobile and desktop client processors. Own end-to-end CPU power and performance requirements within the SoC and coordinate across CPU microarchitecture, silicon design, firmware, operating system, validation, thermal, and product teams to deliver energy-efficient performance.
This role spans early product definition through post-silicon validation and requires cross-functional leadership to balance power, performance, and product requirements.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Typically requires significant hands-on experience in SoC or IP architecture, CPU or SoC design, microarchitecture, or power and performance engineering-commonly 4+ years in these domains (see Education Requirements for degree-related minimums).
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Own CPU power-management and performance architecture for mobile and desktop CPUs; define architectural capabilities and guide implementation.
- Define and analyze CPU power and performance requirements, budgets, and SoC interfaces across cores, shared caches, interconnects, memory, accelerators, and platform IP.
- Create and maintain workload-based CPU and SoC power and performance models and targets; correlate predictions with pre- and post-silicon data and refine architectures.
- Partner with firmware and operating system teams on DVFS policies, clock and power gating, idle-state management, telemetry, residency, latency, and QoS tradeoffs.
- Influence CPU microarchitecture and SoC fabric to optimize power efficiency, performance, throughput, and latency under real-world workloads.
- Lead cross-functional architecture and design reviews; drive tradeoff decisions across power, performance, area, cost, thermals, and product experience.
- Translate usage models and competitive insights into clear architectural requirements, measurable success criteria, and progress reports for technical and product leadership.
Requirements
Must-have qualifications and skills:
- 4+ years in SoC or IP architecture, CPU or SoC design, microarchitecture, power and performance engineering, or a closely related technical role.
- System-level thinking and ability to connect detailed design decisions to CPU, SoC, and product-level outcomes.
- Experience with power-management concepts such as DVFS, clock and power gating, idle states, telemetry, residency, latency, and firmware/OS interactions.
- Experience developing or applying power/performance models, benchmarking, workload analysis, or correlating models with silicon measurements.
- Strong analytical problem-solving, technical leadership, and cross-team communication skills to influence architecture and product roadmaps.
Nice-to-have:
- Extensive CPU or SoC microarchitecture or design experience and demonstrated system-level leadership.
- Post-silicon validation experience, thermal and product integration knowledge, or familiarity with accelerators and platform IP.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field with 6+ years of relevant experience; or a master’s degree with 4+ years; or a PhD with 2+ years. Equivalent practical experience in architecture, design, modeling, validation, firmware, or closely related engineering roles is acceptable.
