Job Title

CPU Physical Electrical Analysis Engineer

Role Summary

Join the CPU engineering team to drive electrical analysis and closure at both block and top levels for server-class high-performance SoC designs. The role focuses on IR/EM analysis, PDN/power-integrity work, and implementation using industry-standard PnR tools.

Experience Level

Mid-level - typically requires multiple years of relevant engineering experience: commonly 6+ years with a Bachelor's, 5+ years with a Master's, or 4+ years with a PhD (see Education Requirements for details).

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include electrical verification, analysis, and collaboration with design and PI teams.

  • Perform electrical analyses at block and top levels: static/dynamic IR, power/signal electromigration (EM), and ESD evaluations.
  • Verify electrical properties and provide closure evidence for blocks and full-chip designs.
  • Develop and implement power grid specifications to meet power, performance, and area targets.
  • Use industry-standard place-and-route (PnR) tools to implement power grids and perform layout-related checks.
  • Collaborate with the PDN/Power Integrity (PI) team to improve overall PDN performance and resolve cross-functional issues.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and practical experience; preferred items listed separately.

  • Proficient with EM/IR tools such as Cadence RedHawk and Synopsys Voltus.
  • Hands-on experience with physical design flow and standard place-and-route tools.
  • Strong scripting skills (TCL, Perl, Python) for automation and analysis flows.
  • Experience in power analysis, PnR implementation/verification, and static timing analysis (STA).
  • Knowledge of power grid solutions, system-level PDN design, and power integrity best practices.
  • Effective written and verbal communication; ability to work across cross-functional teams.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with very large designs and development of power-grid-related tools/solutions.

Education Requirements

Degree options listed in the posting: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with 6+ years of relevant engineering experience; OR Master's degree in those fields with 5+ years of relevant experience; OR PhD in those fields with 4+ years of relevant experience. Preferred: MS/PhD candidates with ~10+ years of experience were noted.
