Job Title
CPU Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Perform physical implementation of high-performance CPU designs from RTL through GDSII. Deliver signoff-quality databases by executing synthesis, place-and-route, clock-tree synthesis, timing closure, power analysis, and layout verification while collaborating with logic, circuit, architecture, and EDA teams.
Experience Level
Senior β 10+ years of relevant experience in CPU physical design and signoff flows.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on complete physical design flows, verification/signoff, and methodology/tool development for CPU projects.
- Implement physical design from RTL to GDSII: synthesis, floorplanning, placement, routing, and clock-tree synthesis.
- Perform static timing analysis, timing closure, and timing signoff for complex CPU blocks.
- Analyze and optimize power, power distribution networks, and multiple power-domain interactions.
- Execute reliability, power-integrity (static and dynamic), and noise analyses; run LVS/DRC and electrical/structural checks.
- Collaborate with logic, circuit, architecture, and design-automation teams to improve microarchitecture and physical implementation.
- Work with EDA vendors to develop and enhance tool capabilities for high-speed, low-power CPU designs.
- Drive methodology and flow automation improvements for future projects.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience required to perform the role.
- 10+ years of relevant CPU physical-design experience.
- Proven expertise in synthesis, placement, clock-tree synthesis (CTS), and routing flows.
- Hands-on experience with commercial EDA platforms, especially Synopsys and Cadence toolsets.
- Expertise in timing signoff and formal verification practices for complex designs.
- Strong knowledge of low-power design techniques and power-delivery methodologies.
- Experience with submicron process nodes and layout verification flows (LVS/DRC).
Nice-to-have
- Scripting for automation (Tcl, Perl, Python).
- Experience with Verilog or VHDL.
- Strong verbal and written communication; experience working across geographies.
- Familiarity with feasibility studies and structured-design flow methodologies.
Education Requirements
B.Tech or M.Tech in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a closely related field (as listed in the posting).
