CPU Microarchitect/RTL Engineer
AppleJob Title
CPU Microarchitect/RTL Engineer
Role Summary
Join Apple’s Silicon Engineering Group to drive CPU microarchitecture and RTL development for next-generation high-performance, low-power processors used across Apple products.
The role leads microarchitectural exploration, RTL feature development, validation, and delivery working closely with cross-functional teams to meet power, performance, area, timing, reliability and testability targets.
Experience Level
Senior — requires extensive industry experience; the posting specifies 20+ years of relevant industry experience.
Responsibilities
Deliver and validate CPU microarchitecture and RTL from specification through implementation and performance verification.
- Lead microarchitecture development from high-level exploration to detailed specifications.
- Own RTL feature development, assessment and refinement to meet PPA and timing goals.
- Develop and support test benches and simulations for functional and performance verification.
- Perform performance exploration and correlate RTL behavior with targets.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on timing closure, area, reliability, testability and power aspects of design delivery.
Requirements
Clear distinction between required skills and desirable experience.
- Must-have: Extensive experience with microprocessor architecture.
- Must-have: Hands-on RTL implementation experience using Verilog or VHDL.
- Must-have: Practical experience in RTL validation and use of simulation environments for functional and performance verification.
- Nice-to-have: Knowledge of logic design principles and timing, power, area tradeoffs in CPU microarchitecture.
- Nice-to-have: Expertise in one or more areas such as instruction fetch/decode, branch prediction, scheduling, register renaming, out-of-order execution, integer/FPU pipelines, load/store units, or cache/memory subsystems.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with scripting languages (Perl, Python) and simulators or waveform debugging tools (for example, Verdi).
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor's degree (BS) is required as stated in the posting. No specific field of study was specified; no mention of equivalent practical experience was provided.
