CPU Design Verification Engineer (Senior)
QualcommJob Title
CPU Design Verification Engineer (Senior)
Role Summary
Senior CPU Design Verification Engineer working with CPU and SoC architects to validate micro-architectures and deliver launch-ready silicon. The role sits in the ASICS Engineering group in Cambridge and focuses on CPU-level and subsystem verification for high-performance and low-power products.
This is an on-site role based in Cambridge, UK, requiring daily office presence.
Experience Level
Senior - experienced engineer; role expects demonstrated senior-level verification experience and responsibility (team leadership experience is indicated).
Responsibilities
Deliver verification for a defined CPU functional domain from planning through bring-up, regression and debug.
- Collaborate with CPU and SoC architects to interpret architecture and system requirements.
- Develop detailed test and coverage plans based on architecture and micro-architecture.
- Design and implement verification methodology and scalable, portable verification environments.
- Create verification environment components: stimulus, checkers, assertions, trackers, and coverage models.
- Develop testbenches, transactors, and assembly-level tests for the assigned domain.
- Execute verification plans: design and DV environment bring-up, run regressions, enable features, and debug failures.
- Track and report DV progress using metrics such as bugs and coverage.
Requirements
Key technical skills and proven experience required for the role. Degree requirements are listed separately under Education Requirements.
- Deep knowledge of microprocessor verification functions and architectures (cache coherence, memory ordering/consistency, prefetching, branch prediction, renaming, speculative execution, address translation/MMU).
- Experience with Random Instruction Sequencing (RIS) and verification at block/unit and subsystem/chip level.
- Proven experience leading a small verification team or mentoring engineers.
- Experience writing test plans, portable testbenches, transactors, and assembly-level tests.
- Familiarity with verification methodologies and tools: simulators, coverage collection, gate-level simulation, waveform viewers, and formal proof tools.
- Ability to develop and deliver independently on a block/unit of design and to debug complex verification failures.
- Nice-to-have: experience with advanced techniques such as Formal methods, assertions development, and silicon bring-up.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field with 2+ years of ASIC design/verification/validation/integration experience; OR Master's degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field with 1+ year of relevant experience; OR PhD in Science, Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent practical experience will be considered.
