CPU Design Verification Engineer (2027 New College Graduate)
Role Summary
Join the CPU verification team to validate processor cores and related subsystems. The role focuses on functional verification, performance modeling, and coverage-driven verification using SystemVerilog and UVM.
This position is part of the MIPS / GlobalFoundries verification organization and reports to senior verification engineers; the role is based in Richardson, Texas.
Experience Level
Entry-level (New college graduate). Early-career role intended for recent or soon-to-be graduates.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include developing and executing verification plans, implementing testbenches, and collaborating with architects and designers to ensure CPU core correctness and performance.
- Perform functional verification of CPU cores and related subsystems.
- Interpret microarchitectural specifications and develop verification strategies.
- Create testbenches and develop directed and constrained-random test cases in SystemVerilog, C, and Assembly.
- Use UVM-based environments for coverage-driven verification and analyze coverage reports to close gaps.
- Automate regression and verification flows using Python, Perl, or Shell scripts.
- Collaborate with senior engineers and architects to debug issues and improve design quality and performance.
- Follow Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements in daily work.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, tools, and personal qualities for immediate contribution.
- Hands-on experience with SystemVerilog, UVM, and constrained-random verification methodologies.
- Familiarity with CPU architectures such as RISC-V, ARM, or MIPS.
- Basic understanding of cache and coherency concepts.
- Strong scripting skills in Python, Perl, or Shell for automation.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Proven written and verbal technical communication skills; English fluency.
- Self-motivated, collaborative team player able to contribute to project goals.
Nice-to-have:
- Prior internship or co-op experience in verification or related areas.
- Leadership experience in projects, competitions, or teams.
- Interest in leveraging AI tools and emerging technologies to improve workflows.
- Project management, planning, and organizational skills.
- Exposure to RISC-V architecture and interconnect protocols (AXI, ACE, CHI).
- Experience with FPGA prototyping or emulation platforms.
Education Requirements
Graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field from an accredited program. Candidates must have at least an overall 3.0 GPA and be eligible as a new college graduate.
