Job Title

CPU Circuit Memory Design Engineer

Role Summary

Design and optimize embedded memory circuits (SRAM, caches, register files, ROMs, and periphery) for high-performance, low-power CPU and SoC products. Work on circuit architecture, characterization, simulation, and PPA optimization within a cross-functional CPU circuit technology team.

Experience Level

Mid-level engineer. Required experience ranges by degree (see Education Requirements) but practical experience in CMOS/VLSI memory circuit design and PPA trade-offs is expected.

Responsibilities

Contribute to the design, verification, and delivery of memory circuits and related methodology.

  • Design, characterize, and simulate memory circuits and custom memory blocks for CPU designs.
  • Perform cache design, critical-path analysis, and PPA (power, performance, area) optimization.
  • Develop bit-cell, array, and periphery circuit implementations and automation flows.
  • Execute memory path-finding, trade-off studies, and circuit-level optimizations.
  • Define and improve methodology, tools, and project schedules; collaborate with architects, layout, process, and validation teams.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and domain experience. Preferred items are listed separately.

  • Must-have: Hands-on CMOS circuit design experience focused on memory or digital logic, including simulation and characterization.
  • Practical experience with VLSI design methodologies and circuit trade-offs for power, performance, and area.
  • Experience with cache, register-file, or embedded memory IP design and PPA optimization.
  • Ability to perform critical-path and signal-integrity analysis and work with cross-functional teams to meet delivery schedules.
  • Proven problem-solving, ownership, and communication skills in an engineering environment.
  • Preferred: Low-power implementation techniques, memory circuit innovation, familiarity with EDA/EBB flows and signal integrity analysis.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's in Electrical/Computer Engineering or another STEM field with 4+ years' relevant experience; or Master's with 2+ years; or PhD with 1+ year. Education may be satisfied by a combination of degree coursework, internships, and equivalent industry experience.
