Job Title

CPU Circuit Design Engineer

Role Summary

Join the Silicon and Platform Engineering Group as a CPU Circuit Design Engineer responsible for performance verification methodology and circuit/timing quality signoff for CPU designs. The role evaluates new process nodes via circuit simulation and block-scaling, recommends frequency targets, and collaborates with RTL, circuit, and silicon domains to meet timing and PPA targets.

The position covers pre-silicon responsibilities and grows to own pre-to-post-silicon voltage/frequency correlation and debug of circuit marginality.

Experience Level

Senior β€” requires substantial prior experience in CPU circuit or backend design and timing signoff (see Education Requirements for minimum experience tied to degree).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Drive performance verification (PV) methodology and circuit/timing quality signoff for CPU designs.
  • Evaluate new process nodes using circuit simulations and block-scaling; recommend frequency targets considering microarchitectural growth.
  • Make informed trade-offs between performance, power, area, and engineering effort.
  • Work with RTL, circuit, and silicon domains to converge to timing targets without compromising quality or schedule.
  • Own pre-to-post-silicon VF correlation and lead debug of circuit marginality sightings.
  • Demonstrate execution and design ownership in advanced process technologies.

Requirements

Concise list of must-have and preferred qualifications (education details are in the Education Requirements section).

  • Must-have: 5+ years of CPU circuit or backend design experience; 5+ years of circuit design and STA experience; practical experience with performance verification and timing signoff; track record of execution and design ownership in advanced process technologies; ability to debug circuit marginality and collaborate across domains.
  • Nice-to-have: Deep STA knowledge, demonstrated ability to lead small technical teams (2–3 engineers), hands-on individual contributor who can delegate when necessary, and experience handling ambiguous tasks to closure.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree plus 6+ years, or Master's degree plus 4+ years in Electrical & Computer Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field; or equivalent combination of degree, research, and relevant job or internship experience.
