CPU Circuit Design Engineer
Intel CorporationJob Title
CPU Circuit Design Engineer
Role Summary
As a CPU Circuit Design Engineer in the Silicon and Platform Engineering Group (SPE), you will design custom digital circuits for CPUs, including memory and cache blocks, and ensure they meet power, performance, area, timing, and yield targets. The role involves circuit design, simulation, characterization, and collaboration with architecture and layout teams to deliver robust CPU blocks and improve design flows and automation.
Experience Level
Entry-level - suitable for recent graduates. The role targets candidates with 0–1 years of practical circuit-design experience demonstrated via internships, academic projects, coursework, or hands-on training.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Design and develop custom digital circuits for CPUs, including memory and cache blocks.
- Perform schematic entry, floorplanning, circuit simulation, and characterization for CPU blocks.
- Verify functionality and ensure designs meet power, performance, area (PPA), timing, and yield goals.
- Optimize circuits for performance, power, area, and leakage reduction.
- Characterize memory instances and memory compilers to validate design quality.
- Improve and automate design flows and methodologies to streamline processes.
- Collaborate with CPU architecture, layout, and cross-functional teams; track and resolve design progress and performance issues.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience:
- Familiarity with industrial EDA tools.
- Solid understanding of advanced CMOS technologies and physical layout techniques.
- Proficiency with circuit simulation tools.
- Practical experience demonstrated via internships, academic projects, coursework, or hands-on training (0–1 years).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work in cross-functional teams.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with memory compilers or memory characterization workflows.
- Experience improving or automating circuit design flows and methodologies.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field (with 0–1 years of circuit-design experience demonstrated via internships, projects, or coursework), OR a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field with no prior professional experience. The posting allows "related areas" and recognizes equivalent practical experience demonstrated through internships, academic projects, coursework, or hands-on training.
