CPU Architect, Load-Store
Role Summary
Join the processor architecture team to design, analyze, and optimize the CPU load-store unit for a high-performance out-of-order RISC-V CPU. The role focuses on microarchitecture, performance modeling, and collaboration with hardware and software teams to improve memory subsystem PPA (power, performance, area).
This position is remote, based in the United States, and will work with architects and engineering teams across microarchitecture, verification, and software stacks.
Experience Level
Open to multiple seniority levels; the interview process will determine the appropriate level and corresponding offer. Candidates should have relevant CPU architecture or systems experience.
Responsibilities
Design and optimize the load-store unit and related memory-subsystem features.
- Drive architecture and microarchitecture for the CPU load-store unit in a high-performance out-of-order RISC-V CPU.
- Propose and evaluate implementations to improve load-store power, performance, and area (PPA).
- Perform simulations, modeling, and performance analysis, including evaluating data prefetchers and advanced CPU features.
- Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and software teams to optimize memory access patterns and system performance.
- Document and present architectural decisions, trade-offs, and analysis results.
- Monitor industry trends and incorporate relevant techniques in memory subsystem design.
Requirements

- Strong understanding of computer architecture fundamentals: memory hierarchy, cache coherence, and data prefetching.
- Experience with performance modeling and simulation tools (e.g., gem5, SimpleScalar, or similar).
- Basic experience with hardware description languages (Verilog, VHDL) and system-level programming in C/C++.
- Hands-on experience with performance profiling tools and benchmarking methodologies.
- Ability to analyze complex system interactions and trade-offs in CPU and memory designs.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills for cross-discipline collaboration.
- Exposure to parallel processing architectures and multi-core systems.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science — or equivalent practical experience.
Compensation and Compliance
Total compensation for engineers at this company ranges from $100,000 to $500,000 (base plus variable components). Actual offers depend on experience, skills, education, and location.
This position may be contingent on eligibility to access U.S. export-controlled technology; offers may be limited by citizenship, permanent residency, or required export licenses.
