Computer Architecture Intern (2027 Internship)

Role Summary

12-week, full-time internship on NVIDIA's Computer Architecture team. Interns execute defined engineering projects that deliver measurable results across GPU/CPU architecture, memory systems, and performance analysis.

Work is hands-on and cross-functional, involving implementation, verification, modeling, and performance tuning of hardware and software components.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship for current university students. No prior industry seniority required; this role is intended for students actively enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs.

Responsibilities

Typical responsibilities during the internship include:

  • Execute a defined engineering project with measurable deliverables over the 12-week term.
  • Design, implement, or verify hardware modules or system prototypes (RTL or simulation-based).
  • Develop performance models and run experiments to analyze system behavior and bottlenecks.
  • Write and optimize code for evaluation (C/C++, Python, CUDA) and automation.
  • Collaborate with teammates across architecture, software, and hardware verification groups and document results.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and background; listed concisely below. Specific roles may require subsets of these.

  • Relevant coursework or experience in computer architecture, digital systems, VLSI design, or computer system design.
  • Programming experience in one or more of: C, C++, Python; familiarity with Linux-based workflows.
  • Version control experience (Git); ability to run experiments and analyze results.
  • Interest or experience in one or more focus areas: parallel programming, memory architecture, high-performance computing, deep learning, or graphics.
  • Nice-to-have: hardware description languages (Verilog, SystemVerilog, VHDL), CUDA/OpenCL, modern graphics APIs (DirectX, OpenGL, Vulkan), Perforce, MPI/OpenMP.

Education Requirements

Must be actively enrolled and pursuing a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field for the full duration of the internship. Anticipated graduation month and year must be clearly indicated on the resume or CV.

Compensation: intern hourly rates range from $20 to $71 USD depending on position, location, degree level, and experience.
