Job Title

Component Quality Engineer

Role Summary

The IC Component Quality team ensures the proactive, end-to-end quality of Apple silicon components (SoC, DRAM, NAND, PMU and custom ICs) across supplier fabs, assembly, and test flows. This role leads component quality activities including hands-on debug, failure analysis, statistical dispositioning, and cross-functional supplier engagement to improve manufacturing and test outcomes.

Experience Level

Entry-level - minimum 1+ years of semiconductor process, test/characterization, or reliability experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include technical ownership of component quality, defect investigation, and driving corrective actions with suppliers and internal teams.

  • Monitor component quality metrics and perform statistical analysis to determine disposition for components outside specifications.
  • Bring up and validate bench testers for SOC testing; review test logs and develop test strategies to improve throughput and yield.
  • Lead hands-on debug and failure analysis (FA) to identify root cause and define corrective/preventive actions.
  • Collaborate with Apple silicon design, manufacturing, and supplier teams to implement quality improvements and procedures.
  • Use data analytics and machine-learning tools to identify failure trends, drive intelligence metrics, and support decision making.
  • Travel to contract manufacturer and supplier factories to audit processes and verify silicon meets Apple quality standards.
  • Prepare precise technical reports and communicate engineering analysis to stakeholders.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for day-one contribution; preferred items listed separately.

  • 1+ years of experience in semiconductor process, test/characterization, or reliability engineering.
  • Experience in SoC testing, bringing up bench testers, and developing test strategies based on test log analysis.
  • Proven experience in hands-on debug, failure analysis, root-cause identification, and driving corrective actions with suppliers.
  • Strong data analysis skills and familiarity with AI or machine-learning tools and processes for quality analytics.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to supplier and contract manufacturer sites for audits and on-site debug.
  • Nice-to-have: deep product reliability knowledge, experience with cross-sectional analysis and tools (Optical Microscopy, X-Ray, SEM/EDS, FTIR, XPS), and experience designing engineering DOEs.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
