Job Title

Component Engineer - Semiconductor Devices

Role Summary

Work on component selection, testing, qualification, and failure analysis for semiconductor devices used in high-speed systems (ASICs, NPUs, CPUs, switches, FPGAs, PHYs, retimers). Collaborate with design, manufacturing, operations, quality engineering teams and component vendors to ensure components meet product requirements.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The posting requests a minimum of 2+ years of relevant industry experience, with preferred candidates having 4+ years.

Responsibilities

Accountable for component engineering activities across development and production.

  • Select, test, and qualify semiconductor components to meet product specifications.
  • Lead failure investigations and end-to-end root cause analysis; define and verify corrective/preventive actions (8D, RCCA).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on part selection, risk assessments, and design reviews to mitigate component and system risk.
  • Develop and execute qualification and reliability test plans; interpret characterization and test data.
  • Work with vendors to resolve issues and influence technology roadmaps to align with product needs.
  • Support investigations across NPI, mass production, and field returns using advanced failure analysis techniques.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.

  • Minimum 2+ years in semiconductor, networking, server, computer, or embedded industry.
  • Hands-on experience with component selection, qualification, testing, and failure analysis in high-speed systems.
  • Understanding of semiconductor design, fabrication, characterization, quality, reliability, and FA techniques.
  • Experience collaborating with hardware/software engineering, operations, and manufacturing stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving, written and verbal communication, and ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Familiarity with control interfaces such as PCIe, MDIO, SPI, and I2C.

Nice-to-have:

  • 4+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Experience with ASICs, XPUs, FPGAs, PHYs, and SerDes retimers.
  • Knowledge of reliability testing methods (HTOL, ELFR, LU, ESD) and high-speed hardware designs with x86 or ARM CPUs.
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams and vendor technology roadmaps.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field is required. The posting references degree-level technical education specifically in EE/CE or related fields; no explicit mention of accepted equivalent experience was provided in the text.
