Job Title

Compiler Engineer for AI DSLs

Role Summary

Design, develop, optimize and maintain compiler toolchains and features targeting Intel CPUs, GPUs and accelerators to improve performance for AI and high-performance computing workloads.

Join the Compiler Engineering team within Intel's Data Center Group (DCG) to collaborate with hardware and software teams and contribute to compiler frameworks and open-source projects.

Experience Level

Entry-level. The posting describes this as an entry-level role; the minimum listed experience is 2+ years of relevant exposure (which may include internships, coursework, research, or industry experience).

Responsibilities

Key technical responsibilities include:

  • Develop compiler features and optimizations tailored to Intel architectures.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineering to support new processor features and improve compiler integration.
  • Contribute to and maintain compiler frameworks such as LLVM, Clang, SYCL, and Fortran.
  • Perform functional and performance experiments, debugging, and defect resolution.
  • Participate in upstream open-source collaboration and standards work.
  • Investigate code parallelization, vectorization, and other performance-enhancing techniques.
  • Analyze application and benchmark performance and implement improvements.
  • Work with cross-geo engineering and validation teams to meet quality and performance targets.

Requirements

Must-have and preferred technical qualifications. Degree requirements are summarized below under "Education Requirements."

Must-have:

  • Approximately 2+ years of experience with C/C++, SYCL, CUDA or DSL programming, object-oriented design, and complex data structures.
  • Experience with compiler technologies and the LLVM compiler infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated debugging and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and contribute to open-source projects.
  • This position is not eligible for Intel immigration sponsorship.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience developing and maintaining production-grade compilers and LLVM backend/frontend components (IR generation, passes, backend development).
  • Familiarity with vectorization techniques, parallel programming models (OpenMP, SYCL), and GPU compiler optimizations.
  • Strong understanding of processor architectures, performance analysis, and memory optimizations.
  • Experience with MLIR/TileIR or compiler infrastructure for DSLs in AI domains.
  • History of collaborating with language standards groups or contributing to standards development.

Education Requirements

Minimum listed: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Electronic Engineering, Informatics, or a closely related technical discipline. The posting also allows equivalent experience obtained through industry experience, internships, coursework, or research.
